Join a club with swords!
Weekly meetings will introduce teens to the basics of Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA).
HEMA practitioners study the manuscripts of late Medieval-Renaissance sword masters to reinvigorate the art of sword fighting, pole arms, and other weapons.
The purpose of the HEMA Club is to introduce teens to the training and concepts of sword fighting as well as the values of hard work and courage.
Because HEMA is a relatively new martial art, students are encouraged to study the manuscripts themselves. This aspect of HEMA gives students as sense of ownership while developing research skills and historical insight.
The HEMA Club will focus on the basics of strength, skill, and flexibility through light-weight/body weight training, technique, and stretching.
